Message from the Dean
As the largest and most diverse unit on campus, the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), is home to some 15,000 undergraduate and graduate students and nearly 475 faculty. With 25 departments and 12 academic programs, 21 centers and institutes, two art galleries, and major theater and music performance venues, CAS provides liberal arts and sciences education to the University and the community. Our faculty provide students with the ability to pursue their interests within the dynamic atmosphere of a major research university. The College is committed to improving the academic experiences of all our undergraduate and graduate students. Toward this end, with the help of College alumni and friends, we are offering more scholarships, more research internships, and more study-abroad opportunities to enrich the UB learning experience.
Two-thirds of the College of Arts and Sciences faculty have been hired during the last ten years adding an energetic group of scholars to our list of distinguished faculty. Many of our faculty hold prestigious research grants and awards, and publish in the most prestigious journals and with the most highly ranked presses. Many CAS faculty members receive awards for excellence in teaching, research and community engagement. Our continued success would not be possible without the support of our loyal alumni and friends, who understand the value of public education and the importance of enriching the lives of our students and our greater community.
I invite you to browse these pages, and read about the accomplishments of our faculty, students and alumni. You’ll also be able to find news on upcoming events, and highlights of recent activities of CAS students, faculty and alumni.
Happy surfing!
