Removal Dome

Concept:
This idea was made when I tried to imagine my feelings when I lay comfortably down on Buffalo City Hall's floor. I closed my eyes and made my body relax. However, my mind just felt hollow. I couldn't catch any messages from the building. "More than just a work of art, it contains much artwork and no part of which was left without a reminder as to what Buffalo is."

I felt just like I was outside of City Hall. Below the roof of City Hall, I just imagined myself lying on the chilly and snowy rooftop. That feeling was derived from no acknowledgment of my personal experience about City Hall and no practical interaction between the site and me. I asked myself: if I were to lay down in the original city hall of my country (Korea), what would I feel? I would think of my city's weary history, the new worthless development policies of a mayor and the crumbling house of the lower classes. Regarding Buffalo, in contrast, even if I have extensive information about Buffalo's history and knowledge about its citizens from documents, can I feel the place in my heart?

Approach and Mediums:
I want to express this feeling of detachment. I want audiences to undergo the situation and imagine lying down on the 25th floor of City Hall. I'll remove the roof of City Hall and force them to lie down below a Buffalo sky.

I'll use one small room named "Removal Dome". I'll install a screen on the ceiling of that room, and flash a video projector from the bottom. Audiences who will lie down on the floor will see the dark and dismal snowing sky pictures. And I will incorporate writing into my screen about my feelings/experiences regarding home, displacement and Buffalo.
