The study of communication embraces the most fundamental aspects of human interaction - from the subtleties of interpersonal communication, to the cutting edge of the new communication technologies and information studies.

The Communication Department is educating the next generation of information professionals, knowledge workers and communication and information researchers. Individuals and organizations are empowered by effective communication. The shared principle that information serves the purposes of human communication and is enhanced by technological systems is at the core of our curriculum.

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR IN RISK COMMUNICATION


 

The Department of Communication at the University at Buffalo, State University of New York announces the availability of a tenure track assistant professor position for the Fall of 2009, contingent upon final budgetary approval.  This position seeks individuals who have expertise in Risk Communication, consistent with the Department of Communication's interests in interpersonal, organizational, and health communication, networks, and mass media, as well as the University’s Extreme Events: Mitigation and Response strategic strength, which is part of the UB 20/20 Initiative.  For more information, see UB's 20/20 Extreme Events website.

We are looking for someone who has a Ph.D. in communication or relevant cognate field; who has a record of research; has evidence of teaching experience; and has potential for external research funding.  We particularly seek candidates who specialize in quantitative research methods. 

The responsibilities associated with this position include teaching 2 courses per semester (usually one undergraduate and one graduate course per) in your area of expertise. The candidate is expected to conduct research and establish an externally funded program of research. Like all Communication Department faculty, new hires are expected to participate in graduate advisement and appropriate service commitments to the department, school, university and discipline.
