Resolution #1 of the Voting Faculty of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS)

The voting faculty of the CAS resolves that the UB and CAS administrations should, substantially and in good faith:

  • Lift the CAS hiring freeze by the end of this academic year.
  • Increase all CAS TA/GA stipends to nationally competitive levels by next year.
  • Remove immediately the automatic requirement that all undergraduate CAS courses must enroll at least 15 students; and
  • Provide the (new) CAS Budget Committee with such information as it will request, including the numbers of faculty at time of merger, the present losses, and the locations of part-time instructors.

Resolution # 2 of the Voting Faculty of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS)

The Faculty of the College of Arts and Sciences endorses the following Statement of the Faculty of the College of Arts and Sciences concerning Faculty Consultation in the Consideration and Adoption of University Priorities:

The Faculty of the College of Arts and Sciences does not have confidence in priorities that are established for the University at large, or for the College in particular, without significant faculty participation. Nor has it confidence in priorities that are adopted by administrators without faculty endorsement.

As a specific instance, the plans currently being followed to cope with the College's budget crisis were adopted without faculty consultation and do not have the confidence or support of the Faculty of the College of Arts and Sciences.
