CAS Student Assistance Fund

The College of Arts and Sciences Student Assistance Fund

The College of Arts and Sciences, through the generosity of several donors, has established a fund to provide critical financial support for students who, but for a relatively small yet unattainable financial need, almost make it to graduation only to have to withdraw before they complete their studies. Preference based on class rank is given to those students who have no more than three semesters remaining until they are able to graduate.

This fund also provides financial help to enable students with documented need to take advantage of enrichment opportunities such as study abroad, undergraduate research, and internships.  In this way, these students may enjoy the “full college experience”, the broadest education possible.

Eligibility and Application Requirements:
Students who apply for funding must provide specific documentation of their need and a written explanation of how the award will allow them to complete college or participate in a program that they could not otherwise afford.  Application for assistance is confidential and submitted to the College of Arts and Sciences Dean’s Office.  University faculty and staff are encouraged to recommend students whom they believe would qualify.

The Fund is administered by the College of Arts and Sciences Undergraduate Education Awards Committee.   Funds are awarded each semester or academic year, as needed.   The committee works in close collaboration with the Director of Financial Aid to confirm need and coordinate the overall financial aid for the recipient.  Preference is given to applicants who have completed a higher number of academic credit hours in order to prevent complications with financial aid.

The recipients are required to meet with their academic counselors to ensure that their academic requirements are met.   They must account for the disposition of the funds and provide a timely report on how the funds assisted them in insuring graduation or accomplishing other academic achievement.  In addition, the recipients are required to meet with the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education to keep him/her apprised of their progress throughout their funding period.

Submission Deadline: Funds are awarded each semester or academic year, as needed.

Completed applications should be submitted to:
