WORKSHOP TITLE: SEXUAL COMMUNICATION FOR YOUNG ADULTS
WORKSHOP SUMMARY:
Sexual communication isn’t about the mechanics of sex. Instead, it’s about understanding everything that surrounds sex, including social and physiological variables that shape our sexual attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors, our attraction to others, and our communication with sexual partners. As such, this workshop teaches students how to understand what drives them in their interactions with others, how to navigate the sexualized media that surrounds us, how to work with your doctors regarding sexual health, how to improve your social attractiveness, and, when you do become sexually active, how to communicate with your partner in ways that keep you healthy and happy. This workshop employs a frank, scientific approach to understanding and discussing sexual health and relies exclusively on the considerable body of science conducted on sexual communication.

WORKSHOP TITLE: THE BIRDS AND THE BEES, 2.0! THE WHAT, WHEN, WHY AND HOW OF TALKING TO YOUR KIDS ABOUT THE TRICKY TOPICS OF SEX HEALTH
WORKSHOP SUMMARY:
Talking with your kids about sexual health is a source of enormous uncertainty, stress and fear for many parents. As a result, even though 90% of parents in the United States believe it’s their responsibility to talk with their kids about sexual health, less than half ever try. Equally important is how these conversations take place, as their quality affects when kids become sexually active, the risks they’ll take when doing so (including risks for HIV and pregnancy), and how they’ll view themselves as responsible sexual beings. For these reasons, this workshop presents key findings from over 300 studies on how best to talk with your kids about sexual health, how to empower them to be sexually responsible, and how to do so in ways that avoid embarrassment and strengthen your relationship. This is a lively series of discussions and will keep audience members engaged, entertained, and thinking critically about how best to use knowledge they gain from the workshop.
