Undergraduate Commencement Student Speaker

The College of Arts and Sciences Student Speaker Selection Committee is pleased to announce that the competition for the 2017 Undergraduate Commencement Student Speakers is now open to all graduating seniors in the College.

Entries must be submitted electronically to Kristy Mangel in the College of Arts and Sciences Dean’s Office, 810 Clemens Hall, no later than 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 28th, 2017.  Please put Commencement Student Speaker in your subject line and include your UB person # within your email message.

Speeches should be no longer than 3-4 minutes. Selection is based on relevancy and appropriateness of content for the audience and occasion. Finalists will be notified and will audition in Baird Hall on the afternoon of Friday, April 14th.  The winners will be notified immediately following auditions.

The Commencement Student Speaker will deliver his or her speech during the appropriate College of Arts and Sciences Commencement Ceremony on Sunday, May 21st, in Alumni Arena.  The Arts, Natural Sciences, Math and Interdisciplinary Programs ceremony is scheduled for 9:30 AM; the Humanities and Social Sciences ceremony is scheduled for 3:00 PM.  The student speakers will each receive a free class ring courtesy of Jostens.
